And We’re Off!
Happy New Year!
Here we are on the second day of 2024 and I’ve already been busy. My workspace in the living room needed some TLC, which it received. Now I have all my stuff in one place rather than strewn around the living room! Not to mention, amazing paintings of my favorite Golden Girls, a Christmas present from my husband.
When you work from home, as nice as it is to snuggle into an armchair, sometimes you need a desk where you can separate from your living space and switch into “work mode”. I’ve already found myself more productive than I was prior to my holiday vacation.
I have a lot of goals and aspirations for 2024, however my main concern is balancing work and my health. In 2023, my son returned to school full-time after being home-schooled for the last two years and it was a major adjustment. After rushing to bring him to his therapy and trying to cram work into a three-hour window everyday, I finally felt able to breathe. And I had no idea how to handle it.
Having more time throughout the day is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, you are so excited to have the time to get things done and can’t help making all sorts of plans. On the other, it’s very easy to overdo it and find yourself repeatedly burning out, or faced with choice-paralysis.
Therefore, my goal for 2024 is to work smarter, not harder. It’s okay to work in short bursts and it’s only to take a day if you need it. In fact, it’s necessary. I firmly believe that we as humans aren’t meant to be working 40+ hours a week. It’s a thought I plan to put on repeat any time I start kicking myself for not filling every free second of the day with work.
In the meantime, I’m getting myself organized and easing back into the swing of things. Aside from updates, I’ll be releasing blog posts with various pieces of writing advice and topics. I already have ideas brainstormed but I’m always open to questions and suggestions! Leave them in the comments below or send through my contact page.
